Working Holiday Visas
(Subclass 417)
The purpose of a Working Holiday visa is to enable individuals between
18 and 30 years of age to stay in Australia for up to 12 months from the
date of first entry for sightseeing and holiday purposes; and to work
for up to 3 months at a time with any single employer. If you
lodged your application after 1 July 2006, you will be allowed to work
with the same employer for up to 6 months at a time. This visa
also allows you to study/train for up to 3 months at a time. If
you lodged your application after 1 July 2006, you are allowed to
study/train for 4 months.
The visa is granted only to individuals from countries who have
reciprocal Working Holiday maker arrangements with Australia:

From 1 November 2005,
Working Holiday visa-holders who have worked in Australia as a seasonal
worker in regional Australia for a minimum of 3 months can apply for a
second Working Holiday visa, giving them a further 12 months in
Australia. This includes harvest work, and in some cases, includes
plant and animal cultivation, fishing and pearling, and tree farming and
felling.
If you are from Chile,
Iran or Thailand, you may be eligible for a Work and Holiday Visa
(Subclass 462), which is similar to the Working Holiday visa described
above.
