Permanent Visa Options

Family / Remaining Relative Visa

You may be able to apply for a remaining relative visa if you are the last member of the immediate family of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand Citizen. You have to be the sister, brother, half-sister, half-brother, step-brother, step-sister, adult child or adult step-child of your Australian Sponsor.

To be a remaining relative you must have no other overseas near relatives other then your Australian Sponsor and any other Australian relatives. If you are married then your spouse also must not have other overseas near relatives.

The number of these visas granted in a year is limited. You can lodge your application within Australia, or at the nearest overseas post.

A refusal of a remaining relative visa can be reviewed at the Migration Review Tribunal.
